I am therefore I think.
“Who am I?”: a question people often offer
contemplation to and it is indeed a deep one. One cannot digest cursory
explanation of the existence of oneself hence, there are various identities
people attach themselves with. The fundamental idea of oneself is started by
their ‘name’ which means for me I am Jeet, for you it is your name. But, I find
a problem with our names being the only criteria to distinguish each individual
from others. It is not because that names are not unique, but our name is just
an idea to allow ‘other people’ to comprehend our existence. I am a human whose
name is “Jeet”. It is just an idea which my parents passed upon me so that I
can have an idea of my unique existence. I am not Jeet, my name is Jeet.
It is necessary to make sense of all the happenings around me without being nonplussed
about my own existence, hence all the information revolves around the idea of
myself – Jeet. I am a boy, 18 years old, quite well in academics, son of my
parents etc. It is how I decipher my reality. But, this is not the realization
this blog is all about. It is about the idea that my identity can be changed.
It would not be ‘me’ who defines ‘my’ identity – but the people around. I
believe I am Jeet because of my idea that I am Jeet or possibly because this is
only how I would make sense of life. I am just a mass of information acquired from
around. My idea of my existence makes it facile to navigate a way forward in the
face of persistent assimilation of information. My message is just that the very idea of our individual
existence is in fact in the end – an idea only.
Now, I face
another question – Who am I if not Jeet? Then I find that the idea of myself
can be created by an intelligence which is beyond the idea of “me”. It is a
deeper sense which is capable of comprehending reality. In other words, I do
not exist in reality because the very idea of ‘me’ is allowed by something “not
me”. I find this realization fascinating and at the same time ineffable. I am
not the idea of me, but I’m beyond the idea that I exist. All of my realization
is possible since the fact I believe that I exist as I do in the world is the
result of my mind comprehending it. It is not that “I think therefore I am” but
the other way round. “I” am beyond the idea of my existence. I am not Jeet, in
the truest sense. It’s just a thought, and my existence is more than a thought.
“I am therefore I think”.
